ADLINK Shows Customizable Edge AI Drone Kit with Qualcomm Processing at Embedded World 2026

At Embedded World 2026, ADLINK demonstrated a development drone kit designed to combine flight control and onboard AI processing into a single integrated platform. Rather than presenting a collection of modular components, the system is built around a custom board that serves as a reference design developers can adapt for their own projects. The kit integrates a Qualcomm-based processor with onboard AI acceleration, allowing the drone to run vision and detection tasks locally while maintaining the flexibility needed for customized drone applications.

A Drone Kit Built for Edge AI Processing

The core of the platform is a Qualcomm processor capable of delivering around 15 TOPS of AI compute performance. This processing capability allows the drone to perform inference tasks directly on the device, including detecting humans, identifying objects, and monitoring environments without relying on constant cloud connectivity.

Running these workloads on the drone itself allows the system to react more quickly to events in the surrounding environment. For applications such as inspection or monitoring, onboard AI processing can enable the drone to analyse video streams in real time and identify relevant objects or activity while it is in flight.

Integrated Flight Control and AI Hardware

Many development drones are assembled from multiple separate modules, including a flight controller, compute board, communication modules, and camera interfaces. While this modular approach can be flexible, it often increases system complexity and adds additional weight.

Adlink drone

ADLINK’s design integrates the flight control hardware and AI processing into a single board architecture. By combining these functions into one platform, the system can reduce component overhead while providing a more streamlined hardware design for developers building advanced drone systems.

A Customizable Blueprint for Drone Developers

The development kit is intended to act as a blueprint that drone manufacturers and developers can build upon. Instead of starting with a blank hardware design, teams can begin with the existing board layout and modify it based on their requirements.

This approach allows the hardware to be adapted with different sensor inputs, camera configurations, or communication interfaces. ADLINK can also work with customers and partners to adjust the board design so it fits the needs of specific drone platforms or application requirements.

A Platform for Autonomous Drone Applications

The integrated hardware and onboard AI processing make the system suitable for applications where drones need to operate independently while analysing their surroundings. Tasks such as infrastructure inspection, industrial monitoring, and surveillance often require drones to process large amounts of visual data while in flight.

The platform is capable of operating at ranges of up to around 10 kilometres depending on configuration, and ADLINK works with partners such as X Dynamics to provide complete development kits. By combining edge AI processing with a customizable hardware platform, the system provides a foundation for developers working on next-generation autonomous drone solutions.
