NVIDIA Releases Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial Module

While the average consumer may associate NVIDIA with its stellar GPUs for gaming or its excellent NVIDIA Shield TV Android TV streaming box, NVIDIA remains at the forefront of cutting-edge technology with its focus on artificial intelligence (AI) processing. And its AI-capable single-board computers like the NVIDIA Jetson Nano provide an accessible platform for at-home makers to get started with AI applications like machine learning. In a June 15, 2021 announcement, NVIDIA relased a new Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial module. Capable of providing top-notch artificial intelligence performance for embedded industrial devices, the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial module is form-factor as well as pin compatible with the Jetson AGX Xavier, while boasting up to 20-times the performance and four-times the memory of the Jetson TX2i.

What is the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial Module?

NVIDIA Launches Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial Module

NVIDIA's Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial module is purpose-built a ruggedized module engineered to fuse artificial intelligence processing with embedded applications. Because of its rugged capabilities, the Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial module is well-suited to deployment in harsh conditions such as automation or robotics in settings like construction, agriculture, or manufacturing.

The Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial module expands the functionality of the Jetson AGX Xavier system-on-module (SoM) providing a platform for AI-powered systems in harsh conditions. It's intended for robotics, artificial intelligence, automation, optical inspection, video analytics, and other advanced industrial tasks. Despite its extremely compact form-factor and extreme energy efficiency, the Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial module boasts up to 30 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of artificial intelligence computing performance.

NVIDIA Launches Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial

Since the Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial module is designed to withstand tough, demanding conditions, its ruggedization is no slouch. The Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial module can handle temperatures between -40 degrees Celcius all the way up to 85-degrees Celcius. Non-operational humidity conditions can be 95% relative humidity, -10-degrees Celcius to 65-degrees Celcius. It can take 10-500Hz, 5G RSM of vibrational while operational and 10-1000Hz, 3G RSM non-operational. And for shocks, the ruggedized industrial Jetson AGX Xavier Module can hold up to 50G, 11ms, Half sine while operational and non-operational 140G, 2ms, Half sine. There's error-correcting code for DRAM and GPU ECC.

Since the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial module is pin, software, and form-factor compatible with the Jetson AGX Module, it's a breeze to upgrade to the Industrial iteration.

NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial Module Use Cases

Already, the Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial module is poised to revolutionize industial settings. With its computer vision and AI capabilities, the Jetson AGX Xavier Industrial module is capable of processing and anaylzing data for better predictive analytics. In a GTC21 presentation, AI-based anomaly detection with die-casting processes allowed for better advance prediction of product quality which eschewed additional process costs by more than 30%, while decreasing defect rates by as high as 40%. Overall, the Jetson AGX Xavier is poised to enable Industrial Internet of Things IIoT applications.
