Embedded World 2023: Silicon Labs Unveils New Amazon Sidewalk Demo

Silicon Labs is showcasing its range of demos at Embedded World 2023, including its latest Amazon Sidewalk demo. Amazon Sidewalk is Amazon's own network protocol that enables various devices to connect to the same network, regardless of what they are. András from Silicon Labs walked us through their award winning demo of their development systems for working with Sidewalk.

The demo shows how the devices can work together with the Amazon Sidewalk ecosystem. With just three boards, the demo is straightforward but impressive. On the screen, there's a QR code displayed that shows the devices are connected to the gateway and ecosystem. Scanning the QR code with your phone takes you to the Silicon Labs backend connected to the Amazon Sidewalk, where you can access a control panel. From there, you can switch the LEDs, check the status of home appliances, and even send a message to the display.

András emphasizes that the demo is just the beginning of what can be done with Amazon Sidewalk and the IoT. With the Matter protocol emerging, there will be a lot more wireless technology that will be deployed in the world. The current demo only scratches the surface of what can be achieved, but it shows how easily different devices can work together.

  • It's amazing to see how all of these protocols are coming together to create unified systems that are much less complex than they used to be. As András notes, it's a fantastic thing, and it's exciting to see what the future holds for IoT and wireless technology.
