Seeedstudio ESP32S2 Xiao Now Available, Sense Module and LCD Display Coming

Seeedstudio is expanding its popular Xiao range with two new ESP32S3 boards. The first, retaining the tiny Xiao form factor that made it so popular with Keeb enthusiasts and space-conscious hackers alike, is the first to feature a 30-pin micro board-to-board connector.

This solves one of the issues with the Xiao dev boards: The lack of I/O. We talk about the new release, and the upcoming Sense variant and LCD screen in this week's Electromaker Show [Timed YouTube Embed]:

While there is no information about ESP32S3 Sense version at the time of writing, it seems likely that it'll be similar to the XIAO nRF52840 Sense board, which takes the XIAO nRF52840 board featured in this tweet and populates the missing IC spot with a combination PDM digital microphone and 6-axis IMU. It remains to be seen how they'll accommodate the board-to-board connector and Sense module on such a tiny footprint!

This tweet also teased an upcoming round LCD screen and a separate video of it working with the ESP32C3 Xiao - meaning it'll likely be compatible with most of the Xiao range.

The Xiao ESP32S3 Sense and the LCD screen have no purchase details yet. The Xiao ESP32S3 is available now from SeeedStudios for $7.49, but it's on backorder until March 31st. You can find out more about the process of bringing the Xiao ESP32S3 to life in a recent Seeed blog post.
