Contest rules

Requirements

To be eligible for judging, a project entry must meet the following content/technical requirements:

  • You must create a free Electromaker account and submit your project write-up using the project upload form.
  • Projects should be submitted in the English language.
  • Either the Nordic Thingy:91 OR nRF9160 DK must be used as the development platform for your project.
  • People that already own the required hardware may enter the contest.
  • You may use any other type of hardware or software that is compatible with the Nordic Thingy:91 or nRF9160 DK.
  • The project must adhere to the contest theme (Smart home or Smart city)
  • Projects must be the work of the submitting individual (i.e. no plagiarism).
  • Submissions must be entered by the deadline outlined in the content brief.
  • Participants agree their project details may be shared and promoted for the purposes of marketing by the competition organisers.

Prizes and giveaways

The following prizes are being offered:

  • The competition sponsors will make available a maximum of 50 free Nordic Thingy:91 to participants.
  • A Nordic Semiconductor T-shirt will also be shipped to winning participants.
  • One Nordic Thingy:91 & T-shirt per completed and accepted application.
  • Once the hardware has been given away, no further hardware will be offered.
  • No cash alternative will be offered.
  • The following prizes are being offered:
    • First Prize: €1,000 Cash Prize
    • Second Prize: €750
    • Third Prize: €500
    • Runner up: $50 amazon voucher
    • Edge Impulse bonus prize: Oculus Quest 2

Project ideas submission form opens: January 12th 2022

Project ideas submission deadline: 9th February 2022

Kits Shipped: 16th February 2022

Submissions deadline: May 11th 2022

Winners Announced: May 25th 2022

Eligibility

You are eligible to enter if you meet the following requirements at the time of entry:

  • You are a hobbyist or professional in the field of technology development and
  • If you are considered a minor in your place of residence, then you should ask your parent’s or legal guardian’s permission prior to submitting an entry into this challenge.
  • You are not involved in the execution or administration of this contest; and
  • You are not an immediate family member of (parent, sibling, spouse/domestic partner, child) or household member of an Electromaker or Nordic Semiconductor employee.
  • Projects cannot have been selected as a winner in any other contest.
  • Project owners must be granted permission and / or obtained licences for any submitted materials.
  • Participants can enter as many projects as they wish.
  • To be eligible for the $50 amazon voucher runner up prize, the participant must enter a complete project that meets the minimum requirements and is accepted as a valid project entry. Only valid projects will be published on the Electromaker website.
  • To be eligible for the Edge Impulse bonus prize your project must incorporate a machine learning aspect using the Edge Impulse studio.
  • Each project entry must use the Nordic Thingy:91 OR nRF9160 DK as the core development platform.
  • The hardware used for your project can either be previously owned or awarded by the contest sponsor during the initial application phase.
