Hello.
Thank you for having this competition. I really enjoyed modelling for this. This is actually my first modelling of something like this that is unrelated to my work and not exactly an industrial machine part or component.
I've known about 3d printing for almost 8 years but only recently delved deeper into it. I needed to, for prototyping some parts of a machine that I'm currently developing, related to my research. During this, I registered in this community and got a chance to see all the awesome work people are doing. Then this lockdown happened, I had some time on my hand, saw this competition is ongoing. I thought of participating even though I personally don't own any 3d printer yet and can't upload pictures of print.
Here is my entry:
https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d ... amp-118257
I wanted to make a general looking but an artistic lamp without any special reference to some movie, game, comics or anything that would work for people of different preferences and would fit in most places.
About the design, as you can see from the name, this lamp draws its main inspiration from the mushroom cap jellyfish. But several other concepts have also been applied here such as parabolic structures(the legs of the stem), the architecture of some dome types, structural symmetry, specific proportions(i.e. golden ratio) to name a few. I hope people will like this design and actually print it because I can't right now.
Please excuse my irrelevant blabbering, Thank you! :D

Hello,

I decided to show my design here, because it'd be a new way to get feedback.

My design was inspired by a Maker's Muse video, where he showed off the plane cut tool. I gave it a couple of tries, and I figured I could incorporate it into the lamp design. Here's the MMF link, by the way: https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d ... amp-116957.

Thanks!

Firstly, I wanted to thank you guys for this competition because it's mixing two of my favorite hobbies! By trade & education I'm an electronics engineer, but I fell in love w/ 3D printing about 2 years ago. I've only been modeling for just under a year, but I saw this competition as a means to challenge myself to to get better.

I actually ended up doing two designs:

Genie Mood Lamp:
[inspiratioin - I thought it would be a fun play on words to make a lamp with a genie. The base is supposed to represent the smoke seen as the genie comes out of the lamp and all of the colors explode as it grows.]

Cuttlefish Mood Lamp:
[inspiration - I wanted to play with the idea of animals that can change color as the lamp shade! The angry cuttlefish is inking as it changes colors because cuttlefish usually change color as a defense mechanism.]

Hello. Thanks for the opportunity to be part of this contest. I'm new to 3d printing, started December of last year. I have learned a lot about 3d printing and design by being part of this contest. It is has been an amazing journey. Any feedback on my designs is welcome with open arms. I got carried away with my submissions.

Hi all!

There are some great designs here already. Here's mine : https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-118129

I call it "Willow"

I wanted something that would display well on my desk at work, so I got to work!

I'm thrilled with the way it came out, and I hope others will enjoy it too.

Judges: This design is parametric, so the dimensions of everything are easily modifiable if you foresee any use cases benefiting from that.

As a side note: I haven't been able to print this myself as I'm still producing face shields as fast as I can for a local effort. MMF seems to be taking longer than usual to give the thumbs up on "support free printing" but hopefully that comes through soon.

Good luck! I love projects like this. 3D Printing is a real asset to electronics projects.

Kris
